For many of us, autumn is the best time of year. The sky appears bluer, and crisper. The leaves on the trees turn purple.
A time for cozy evenings by the fire and with the occasional surprise early morning frost.
For those living in the northern hemisphere, this is the time when we get the urge to hibernate for the winter.
Hibernating is also a good metaphor for filling our ‘cups’. Filling our cup is the intentional act of doing all the things that restore us, that feel nourishing and satisfying.
These last couple of years, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of Hygge, that Danish word for all things cozy and comfortable.
But have you ever considered adding a dash of functional mushrooms to your Hygge routine?
Mushies by definition are grounding and comforting. So let’s find out how functional mushrooms are a perfect addition to practicing Hygge, aka hibernating.
What is Hygge?
Hygge is a lifestyle, an atmosphere, a vibe. It’s about candles, blankets, and warm drinks.
A conscious implementation of what provides comfort during the cold, dim months, an invitation to be present in our bodies, our homes, and with our loved ones.
It is the act of indulging in soft lighting, cozy spaces, enjoyable textures, delicious foods, and quality time with loved ones.
How To Hygge
To Hygge is to slow down the speed of life as much as possible, especially during the colder months. No phone, but lots of reading by candlelight.
There are no screens, but rather low warm lighting and lit fires in the evening. No calls, but rather soft gentle music, or silence.
No fancy clothes, but rather blankets and warm sweaters.
No parties but rather small intimate gatherings and deep one-on-one conversations.
How to Functional Mushrooms Fit Into Hygge?
Functional mushrooms like Lion’s Mane, Chaga, Reishi, and Cordyceps have been consumed for centuries for their unique properties.
Some of these mushrooms are excellent as gourmet ingredients but did you know that the powered extracts taste quite lovely?
Yup, they taste great and if you follow some of my recommendations below, you will have the makings of the most excellent healing warm winter beverage.
Open the Capsules and Experiment
This is hands down my favorite drinks to enjoy day or night.
It’s so simple you won’t believe it.
Take 4 or 6 capsules of our Mushrooms Essential Complex
Put the powder from the capsules into your favorite mug.
Add hot water, a pinch of cinnamon, vanilla, honey, and almond milk.
Voila! You’ve got an epic tea and/or coffee alternative.
This homemade functional mushroom tea soothes me, supports my immunity, and helps me enjoy a deeper sleep than usual.
You really gotta try it.
Hygge IS Mindfulness
The act of brewing and sipping is an opportunity for mindfulness. Move slowly, play soft music, and use soft lighting.
Imagine it, sitting by the fireplace, reading a book. You’re in your coziest pajamas, cuddled on the couch. Take your time, sip slowly, and enjoy the moment.
Be mindful of the texture of your favorite mug. Of the warmth from your blanket. The softness of your sweater or pajamas.
It’s quiet moments like these that we restore ourselves and recharge our batteries.
A Golden Rule To Follow: Quality
For all things Hygge, quality is a nonnegotiable.
Everything we do must feel good, taste good, and be good for us. Case in point, be sure to only use brands that properly extract their mushroom products.
I am proud to say that all of our functional mushroom products are dually extracted for maximum bioavailability
Keepin’ It Calm and Cool
If your idea of Hygge does not involve hot beverages, fear not, I have an option for you.
Our Pure Sleep product is a delicious and excellent sleeping supplement.
Use one scoop in some water and notice how your sleep improves.
The combination of Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Ashwagandha, valerian, and L-Theanine makes Pure Sleep an excellent ally for deep restorative sleep.
If you’re pregnant, nursing, or have some health issues, consult a healthcare professional before diving into the functional mushroom world.
So, there you have it—a cozy guide to embracing hygge and functional mushrooms during the cold months.
This winter, may your days be Hygge and your mugs be mushy-filled ☕🍄❄️
As always,
Shine bright, do good, flow strong.
